The Global Black Syndicate
Investing in diverse founders
We have created the Global Black Syndicate (“GBS”) to leverage the Power of the Global Black Network to source deals, invest in deals and support and grow these investments to build wealth together
The GBS Mission:
Bridge the Capital Gap that prevents Black Founders from getting their best ideas funded
Bridge the Access Gap that prevents Black investors from getting access to the best investment opportunities
Bridge the Relationship Gap that prevents Non-Black Founders and Investors from diversifying their teams, cap tables, advisors and customer bases.
Investment Criteria
Stage
Seed and series A
Industries
We will consider consumer and enterprise companies operating in the fintech, ecommerce, luxury goods, food, and SAAS markets
Thesis
The Venture Capital Industry is simply not capable of closing the Funding Gap for Black Founders – we have to do this for ourselves
The “Fit Phantom”: Non-Black VC’s use “fit” as a rigid screen to exclude products, market segments, customers or opportunities they don’t understand
“Closed Networks”: Non-Black VC’s rely on traditional sources of deal flow (e.g., connections within their networks, “warm” introductions, etc.) that miss most diverse founders because the typical VC lives a very segregated personal and professional life
“Blind to the Facts”: Non-Black VC’s don’t have companies founded by diverse founders on their radar screens and aren’t tracking valuation growth in these businesses, which makes them blind to the opportunities that present themselves
Portfolio
There are 140+ million people of African descent around the world with annual savings of approximately $53B
